4. Brush a light layer of starch over the surface to seal the fibers, but do not saturate the piece. It is important to avoid getting starch on the knitting needle so the carrot does not stick to it and can be easily removed later.
5. Start wrapping the next strip over the last, this time doubling back a couple of times over the start point to build up the wide end of the carrot. Press and smooth the cotton with your fingers and apply a light layer of starch after every strip you add.
